The medina is the main event in Marrakech, but it is not the whole day. When the walls, the heat and the crowds get too much, the city has gardens, parks and a water park outside the old town.
The useful reset is not the biggest attraction. It is the one that fits the child’s age and the temperature. A toddler needs space and a short walk. A 7 year old needs a garden with a path and a snack. A teenager needs water or something to do.
Karim is not a parent. This guide combines his knowledge of Morocco with current garden, park and water park information, checked in October 2026. Read more about Karim. It is part of our places worth it with kids coverage.
Things to do in Marrakech with kids beyond the medina: the short answer
The city is compact enough that a garden does not have to be a whole day. A morning at Majorelle and a picnic at Menara can be two different moods on the same day. The mistake is trying to do all of them in one trip.
Why leave the medina
The medina is narrow, busy and full of things to touch, buy and avoid. That is the point of it. It is also a lot for a small child.
A garden gives the child a place to run, a parent a place to sit and the family a break from the next negotiation. The reset does not need to be educational. It needs to be easy.
The other reason is heat. The medina holds the heat in the walls and the crowds. A garden with shade and a breeze can be cooler, and a water park is a different kind of day.
Where to reset beyond the medina
| Place | Area | Best for | Watch |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jardin Majorelle | Gueliz | A short garden and design visit | Timed entry, crowds and a small garden |
| Cyberpark | Gueliz edge | A free run around and a short reset | It is a park, not a destination garden |
| Menara Gardens | West | Open space, a picnic and a big basin | Little shade and a separate pavilion ticket |
| Anima Garden | South | A half day with art, shade and a cafe | The drive and the return transport |
| Oasiria | South | A water day for older children | Season, height rules and the cost |
Jardin Majorelle: short and beautiful
Jardin Majorelle is the garden to choose when you want 45 minutes of color, plants and design, not a place for the child to run. It is in Gueliz and it is a short garden, not a park. Book online before you go.
Children under 10 enter free with an adult. The garden is open every day, but the hours can change, so check the current slot. The visit is short. A stroller can work on the main path, but the garden is not a playground and the narrow sections are easier with a carrier.
Go early if you can. The light is better, the air is cooler and the garden is quieter. A 45 minute visit is enough for most children. Pair it with Cyberpark or a cafe in Gueliz, not with a second garden.
Cyberpark: the free reset
Cyberpark is the easiest reset in the city. It is a public garden of about 8 hectares near the Koutoubia, with space for walking and a break. Entry is free and no booking is needed.
It is not a theme park. There is no big attraction to queue for. That is the point. A child can walk, run on the grass and reset before the next medina block. The park is also a good place for a stroller.
Go in the morning or late afternoon. The middle of the day is hot, and the park is not a water park. Take water and a hat.
Menara Gardens: space and a big basin
Menara is the garden for open space. It sits west of the medina, with a large basin, a pavilion and olive groves. The garden entry is free. The pavilion has a separate ticket.
The basin is the main event for children. It is water, not a pool. Keep a hand on a toddler near the edge and do not let an older child run along the rim. The open space is the other draw. A ball, a picnic and a slow walk work better than a tight schedule.
Go early or late, take water and a hat, and do not plan a long midday visit in summer. The garden is open daily, but the hours can change by season.
Anima Garden: the half day
Anima is the garden for a half day. It is south of the city, with shaded paths, open spaces, art and a cafe. Children under 12 enter free. The official guidance suggests 2 to 3 hours, with shorter loops for younger children.
The garden works because it is not a single path. A child can walk, stop, look and start again. The cafe is the reset point. The art is the reason adults will like it too.
The trade off is the drive. It is outside the city, so a taxi is part of the plan. Confirm the return time before you go. Do not book a tight lunch after it.
Oasiria: the water day
Oasiria is the water park choice. It is open from the last Friday of March to the first Sunday of November, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The attractions stop at 5:30 p.m. and the pools close at 6 p.m.
There is a free shuttle from Jemaa el-Fnaa and Gueliz, subject to seat availability. The park also has height and physical restrictions on some attractions. Check the rules before you promise a slide to a small child. A toddler is not the target guest for the big slides.
Oasiria is a full day, not a quick reset. It costs more than a public garden, and it works best with children who are comfortable in water and old enough for the rules. A cool or windy day is not a water park day.
A half day by age
| Age | Best first choice | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Toddler | Cyberpark or Menara | Space, a short walk and an easy exit |
| 5 to 9 | Majorelle plus Cyberpark, or Anima | A short garden and a run around, or a half day |
| 10 to 13 | Anima or Oasiria | More to do and a longer attention span |
| Teenager | Oasiria or Anima | Water, art and a change from the medina |
A toddler can go to Majorelle, but keep it short and go early. A teenager may find a garden slow. Match the place to the child, not to the guidebook.
Heat, timing and taxis
Go early or late. The middle of the day is for a pool, a long lunch or a dark room. A garden at 2 p.m. in July is not a family plan.
A petit taxi is the easy way to reach Gueliz, Menara or the water park. Agree the fare before you get in, and keep small notes. If you need a car seat, the Marrakech taxi car seats guide covers the booking problem.
For Anima and Oasiria, confirm the return. A free shuttle can be full, and a taxi at the gate is not guaranteed. Save the number of a driver or ask the garden or park to call one.
If you are still choosing where to base the family, the Marrakech family areas guide covers the areas and the walk from the car. For a day trip into the Atlas, read Ourika Valley waterfall walk with kids.
